“You okay?” I asked.

He nodded without looking up.

“Yeah.”

I walked over and sat across from him.

There was something I needed to say, but I wasn’t sure how to start.

“You know… what you did today,” I began, “that wasn’t easy.”

“I just told the truth.”

I smiled a little.

He nodded without looking up.

“Yeah. You did.”

He looked up then.

“I didn’t like how he talked about you. It doesn’t match what I see.”
